What Areas are Suitable for FUE Hair Transplants?

Although you’ll read or may have been told from clinics that you can have a hair transplant performed in other parts of the body, the truth is that hair transplants are successfully performed only in the scalp and with donors taken from the back of the head or from the side.

Don’t fall for the sales and marketing tricks of many clinics that promise great results with hair transplants in other parts of the body such as the face, arms, chest and legs.

Moreover, hair transplants are successful only if the donor follicles are taken from the back of the head and side, and NOT from other parts of the body!

What is a Hair Extraction procedure and what is a Transplantation procedure?

A hair transplantation procedure is divided into two parts:

1. The extraction procedure, where the hair follicles are extracted one by one.

2. After a short break and a light lunch, the transplantation begins, the harvested donor follicles are inserted into the bald or thinning area of the scalp.

What is the difference between grafts and hair follicles?

A graft is a piece of tissue containing one or more hair follicles. Technically, a graft is also called a follicular unit, which usually contains 1 to 4 hair follicles.

A graft cannot be separated because the hair follicles will die. For this reason, a good hair transplant clinic will count how many grafts were transplanted to you. So don’t be impressed by high numbers, but first ask if it’s grafts or hair follicles they quote you for.

Recovery questions:

When can I start washing my hair?

After the procedure you start spraying the recipient site with normal saline solution every 30 minutes until you go to bed. We highly recommend to get up once in the night and spray the recipient area and resume your sleep as normal, leave the bandaged donor site alone.

On day 4 you can begin to wash the whole head with baby shampoo twice daily for 14 days and after 14 days you can do once daily.

When can I return to work?

If your work is not physical you can return to work the next day.

When can I go to the gym?

Avoid strenuous exercise for 15 days following the procedure.(after 10 days you are allowed 30 minutes of jogging, cycling, treadmill, tennis, after 15 days you can gradually start lifting weights and after 3 weeks you can play sports as normal).

When can I start maintenance my hair?

Avoid the use of hair dryers 10 days post operation.

Frequently Asked Questions after having an FUE Hair Transplant:

Is it normal to shed hair after having my FUE hair transplant procedure?

Yes, it’s normal for hair to fall out after an FUE hair transplant, this is called shock loss. This is temporary and starts 1-2 weeks after surgery. After 8-12 weeks new hairs start to grow in their place.

Will there be any scares left in my donor site?

In the first 7-10 days after the procedure, the marks on the skin are visible due to the healing period.

Once the skin is completely healed, it is no longer obvious to others that you have had a procedure. During the first few days of healing, it’s is absolutely fine to wear a baseball cap or loose fitting clean hat of your choice.

How many hairs can I transplant in one session?

We recommend not placing more than 4000-4500 hairs in one procedure.  It can be done but with our many years in this field and having studied post procedure growth rates carefully, we recommend not to place more than this number per procedure.

What are the possible negative side effects if placing more than 4000-4500 hairs in a procedure?

⚡The procedure can go on for too long and be too tiring for the client.

⚡The longer the hairs are outside of the body between extraction and placement, studies clearly show a lower overall growth yield percentage.

⚡The objective and aim in every procedure is to place hairs that will grow and not die off due to procedural issues.  Therefore, we keep within 4000-4500 hairs per procedure.
