Male Androgenic Alopecia

Male Androgenic Alopecia

There are many different terms used to describe male hair loss from the very simple ‘ baldness’ to the more complicated such as ‘male androgenic alopecia’ and the reasons and causes of male hair loss are varied. Very few men in their 70s and 80s will have a full head of hair but for many hair loss can start much younger causing depression, lack of confidence and anxiety issues as generally speaking hair loss is associated with old age or rather it’s easier to look younger with a full head of hair.
There are medications available that can assist in slowing down and even reversing hair loss- the most common ones used are Minoxidil and Finasteride both of which are FDA approved and work by reducing serum levels and which protects the hair follicles from damage. People do report that there can be some unpleasant side effects with using these testosterone-inhibiting drugs such as reduced libido.
The medical teams at Ailesbury Hair Clinic are at the forefront of cosmetic surgery and regularly win awards for the work they do. We are one of the few clinics in Ireland who offer Follicular Unit Extraction ( FUE ) rather than the more invasive Follicular Unit Transplantation ( FUT) technique. In short FUE is much less invasive than FUT and does not leave as much scarring. It is a relatively pain free procedure ( patients describe the procedure as ‘uncomfortable’ rather than painful) and is a lot easier to maintain. For more information on the differences between FUE and FUT please read this article FUE V FUT
The cost of a full procedure varies and is usually based upon the number of follicles that are required; it is therefore advisable to undergo this procedure sooner rather than later. Our surgeons and doctors have all received their training in the most prestigious medical schools in Europe and indeed we have trained teams in sister clinics from all over the world including India, Dubai and Saudi Arabia. We do appreciate that our patients can be somewhat apprehensive so we do everything we can to make the procedure as pain and hassle -free as possible.
