Can pregnant women do prp?
Are you pregnant and thinking of having a PRP treatment?
Here’s what you should know about it:
PRP is an autologous therapy and contains no substances but the patient’s own biological material. So objectively it is safe during pregnancy.
BUT we would not recommend it for two important reasons:
1. Diffuse hair loss may happen during pregnancy and especially after giving birth. It is a hormonally depended condition. PRP is not the treatment since alopecia will go on and the scalp recovers itself within months after giving birth.
2. PRP injections are quite painful and application of local anesthetic is forbidden. So there may be a risk of uterus contractions causing problems with the pregnancy.
Bottom line: PRP objectively is safe but we don’t ever recommend it during pregnancy for the above reasons.
We’re available any time to answer your questions about PRP treatments for hair loss and thinning hair.
